Aerial Photography Insights and Inspiration with Vincent Laforet

Vincent Laforet is a name that has recently become synonymous with world-class aerial photography. His incredible images from above gives us a new artistic perspective of the cities we love and the world we live in. In this five-minute video from the B&H “Prospectives” series, Laforet gives us a great overview of his body of work shot from the sky as well as some practical takeaways from what he’s learned along the way.

Laforet has spent the last year heading up in helicopters over major cities to shoot for his now-released photo book “AIR.” As you may expect, there is a lot that goes on in order to capture these epic aerial images. Laforet explains it as needing to “prepare to be spontaneous.” His in-depth research on the cities and subjects he will be photographing and the arrangements of detailed flight plans allow him to truly be creative while in the air. Otherwise, as Laforet puts it, “if you don’t do any preparation, you’re probably going to buckle under the pressure.”

If you’re interested in seeing more of Laforet’s work, be sure to check out his website and follow him on Facebook and Instagram. You can pick up a copy of “AIR” for $59.95 through B&H now.

Just amazing. Mr. Vicent just rules in the air.

Interesting to hear the perspective from such a master at aerial photography. Cracking images.

Interesting topic for a video tutorial? Due to the nature of the photography, it must be almost impossible to shoot bracketed shots for multiple exposure, so I assume the post editing is done using multiple exposures of the same image? Interesting topic though.
