Nature Photographers and Filmmakers Wanted

Nature Photographers and Filmmakers Wanted

Calling all nature photographers and filmmakers. A groundbreaking new media platform designed to connect more of us to nature is launching its apps' first beta iteration this week.

The new nature platform, known as Mammalz, was founded last year by wildlife filmmakers Rob Whitehair and Alex Finden, and is essentially a hub for nature photographers and filmmakers around the globe. While most nature photographers are currently spread across different platforms, Mammalz is the first niche platform to attempt to bring the nature community together under one roof.

While Mammalz is similar to many of the social platforms we use today, it is the first social platform dedicated to nature photography. It brings together features from some of our favorite social media platforms, with one nuance — the possibility of monetization. According to Finden, the site is essentially a “Twitch for Nature”; "a next-generation community platform for sharing and interacting with all forms of nature media. Whether you are a professional media maker, scientist, educator, artist, writer, or one of over 600 million nature enthusiasts across the planet, Mammalz provides you with the tools to personalize your experience, share your love of nature, and truly make a difference."

Whitehair and Finden explained that while there is an ever-growing interest in nature photography, the traditional means of making a living with it has dramatically decreased. Content creators are able to upload any kind of content to the site, including nature podcasts, images, videos, and 360/VR with the ability to live stream and have real-time chats.

Keen nature photographers and filmmakers can subscribe to the Mammalz newsletter where they will receive instructions on how to sign on to the app. The first beta iteration of the app will be capped at 10,000 users so if you are interested its best not to wait too long.

I wonder if it will include location information after the Instagram geotagging backlash. Hard to imagine this being interesting without it.

"Part of every dollar we make goes toward promoting a greater global-public understanding of nature and the environment. With your help, we can drive real change for the future of our world’s ecosystems."

There is a button on their site named "Monetization".

No FAQs there about what this might cost you. But remember that "part of every dollar" goes toward something that will make you feel good about forking over some of your greenbacks. The other part of that dollar compensates them and will make them feel good.

Lol, and what part of that dollar? Half a cent?

One might suppose that it could be vanishingly small.

The threesome as photographed remind me of evangelicals with "winning" smiles hoping to charm the unwary out of their money.

They could be splendid people, of course.
