As I can't go on any of the trips I had planned this year — like most of us — I've decided to travel vicariously. Here's one wildlife photographer's four day adventure, off-grid in Norway.
Morten Hilmer is a staggeringly good wildlife photographer. If you're unfamiliar with him, I urge you to subscribe to his YouTube channel and follow him on Instagram. Hilmer is a Danish photographer and much of his work is around Scandavia, one of my favorite parts of the world. He is somewhat of a nomad too, with expertise in surviving in the wilderness and camping in testing conditions. In this video, he is doing just that, solo, at the Snøhetta area in Dovre, Oppland. I stayed a little south of there, half an hour away from Rondane National Park and the area is as beautiful as it is brutal.
This video is so serene and relaxing that I gladly watched the whole thing from start to finish without looking away. I just wish I could go back there. So sit back and enjoy as Hilmer takes you through the Norwegian mountains and then add Norway to your list of travel destinations when it's safe to do so!

Dovrefjell is spectacular for both landscape and wildlife photography, but yeah, the conditions can be really harsh in the winter season. Have to be careful around the Musk Oxes. They are really fast!

I wish I'd got to explore the area more. I went in spring so it was still ridiculously cold, but not quite as brutal as the winter months. Certainly one of my favourite countries and I'll go back someday soon!
Haha, the weather can be bad even at "summer" up in Dovrefjell. The forecast for the next few days says snow and -6*c.
You should visit from September to october. Lovely colors all around in the mountains.
Oh I bet. I definitely want to come in a completely different season. I have occasional access to a cabin in Gala (sorry, can't do the correct "a"!) and drove essentially 2-5 hours in all directions. Incredible part of the world.
I've been following Morten for some time. He's such a humble, likable guy. The way he expresses his thoughts is wonderfully entertaining.
And he may be the only person who likes to be out in the ice, cold, and snow as much as I do!
He also is addicted to coffee as much as I am ...... and that's saying something.
He's a kindred spirit.
I met him at a small lecture, where he talked about his trip to Ellesmere Island, so down to earth and easy to talk to.And the passion he has for his craft, it's truly inspiring.
