Adorama Unearthed: A Photography Series that Captures the American Rockies

The best parts of landscape photography is a mix of the planning and adventure to travel to and explore a new destination all while photographing the beauty of the area that you’re in. In this new series from Adorama, you have the opportunity to take a trip through the American Rockies with three photographers as they traverse some of the most beautiful and least seen lakes and mountains in the USA.

Landscape photography in my eyes starts with a solid plan that allows you time to explore and investigate the natural beauty of an area with a statistical optimism that the weather will work the way you hope it will, as you create images that capture the magnitude and essence of a place. In the new series, Adorama Unearthed, we follow in the footsteps of three landscape photographers that are on a mission to explore the Rockies. Our narrator Nathan introduces us to Miguel and Tyler who will be sharing this new adventure with us as we explore these mountains and meadows with them throughout their adventure. If you’re interested in taking a trip though some beautiful places in the USA, then this new series may be a just what you’re looking for to generate some ideas on new and interesting places to go.

So far the series has two episodes that immediately give you learning opportunities when building a travel itinerary and what to do to stay safe when traveling. One of the very first obstacles our group experiences as they begin their adventure is finding out an area they were hoping to visit is by permit only. Always check the areas you are looking to photograph and video in and if they may require a permit to do so. Though this may be less of an issue if you’re just taking photos, an image of an area you may be interested in creating may also be on private property and not accessible without a permit or prior permission.

As we move on to the second chapter, our group finds out that a woman has broken her leg while hiking in the very same area they are hiking in. Though unfortunate for the woman, this is a great reminder to attempt to hike with other people in a group and confirm that everyone has first aid training and a medical kit. In addition, it’s always a smart idea to have a GPS beacon on hand for emergencies like these just in case.

When hiking and taking photographs of far flung areas it requires a level of self reliance and practical understanding of your surroundings so you have a great experience with friends on the trail. Have you watched the first two episodes of Adorama’s new series? What are your strategies to stay safe while hiking with your camera gear?
