Behind the Scenes on a Budget Shower Shoot

Photography is about telling a story. Sometimes you are easily able to get a location that helps tell that story, other times you have to improvise. If you are looking to shoot a model in a shower, but don't have access to one large enough for a photo shoot with your lighting gear, there are options to reproduce a shower scene.

In this video, photographer Brett Seeley takes us behind the scenes on how he set up a fake shower scene in his garage for his latest photo shoot. This setup definitely allows for more freedom and flexibility on set. For me, and I would assume for many others, our bathrooms may not be set up optimally to host a photo shoot with room for multiple lights. I could probably fit a few in mine, but not where I would ideally like to position them.

I have assisted on set where we had the strobe in the shower with the model and we were bunched up against the wall to get the shot. It worked, but not the most comfortable shoot. If you do place a strobe or flash in the shower and concerned about it getting wet, depending on the size and positioning of the light, you can wrap it in a bag or other material to protect it. Just make sure you don't cover up vents on the unit if it has them.

What did you think of the shoot? If you are wanting to add a shower set in your photo shoot, is this something you would give a try or would you just try to make it work in a real shower? Share your shots and tips in the comments below if you have done this before!

Umm, wouldn't have been much simpler to just go get in the shower vs setting up a fake shower scene? IJS

Apparently not. It would depend on what you're shower situation is; size of the room, layout, etc. It would be far easier to do it this way for me than use the shower in any of my bathrooms.

Showers are small with no place for lights unless you waterproof them and can't be creative with angles.

Yep.

Uhh, this was supposed to be a "shower" shoot ?

I thought the solutions to a wet, cramped shower to be pretty much on point!

I don't understand why she keeps her clothes on while she takes a shower.

she does have a one piece swimsuit on. But I can only assume it's for the same reason a woman keeps her lingerie on white doing a boudoir shoot.
