Have you ever tried to remove an object from a photo, but just couldn't get it to look right, whether it be because of the lighting, color, or actual selection? This tutorial provides a handful of tips for perfectly removing objects in Photoshop.
Unmesh Dinda of PiXimperfect recently shared another quality tutorial. Every photographer has a time when he or she needs to remove an object in Photoshop. Most of us probably have a handle on how to use the clone stamp tool to copy from other areas of the image. However, Dinda takes the technique a step further and explains how to use the little-known content-aware fill option. If you are unaware of this tool, it takes the selection you make and reads the area around it to automatically fill in how the selected portion should appear. The tool isn’t perfect, but in many cases, it will give you a quality starting point after which Dinda explains what tools to use to clean up the job. I was surprised to see how well it did in removing the object in Dinda’s video.
As always, this PiXimperfect video is helpful in providing plenty of tips and tricks to help accomplish a task more efficiently. Rotating a clone stamp, using a black-and-white layer to check exposure, and using curves layers to blend the new area are among the tips shown in this video. Dinda also does an excellent job of using many different blend modes in his techniques to give first-hand examples of how he uses each mode.

I never make mistakes that big. Why intentionally create work for yourself.
I sometimes criticize the length of Mr. Dinda's videos because they can sometimes be arduous. In a perfect world it would be nice to see two versions of each -- one that goes through everything in slow detail, and one that just zips through the changes.
But at the same time, they are always very thorough and he has a very positive can-do attitude with what the viewer can accomplish. And I almost always learn something I didn't know before, as I did in this video.
This was the first video of his I watched. I learned at least a couple new things, and I thought I was proficient in Photoshop. The title of "removing large objects" does not do justice to the amount of really helpful side lessons this video has. I'm a fan.
