With May 4 behind us, it brings us one day closer to the release of the upcoming "Star Wars" sequels later this year. Whether you are a fan of the series or not, it's going to be one of the biggest releases in history. In preparation for the launch, Annie Leibovitz had the chance to fly out to the set to photograph some of the original cast as well as the new members joining the franchise for Vanity Fair. Here is a behind-the-scenes look.
"Star Wars" is said to be returning to the franchise’s roots with a commitment to more practical effects as used in the original films. This single fact is what keeps the first set of movies in the highest regard as a revolution in filmmaking, bringing special effects to the forefront. While bringing back some of the classic effects, the cast will also see some familiar characters such as Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Han Solo (Harrison Ford), Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher), as well as a new comers Finn (John Boyega) and Rey (Daisy Ridley).
I mean, walking onto the Millennium Falcon set? To be on it, it’s insane. There were people who literally cried when they walked onto that set. It’s a strange thing, the effect it has.
— Kathleen Kennedy
