Commercial photography marketing is a dark art. Often kept as a bit of a dirty secret amongst those in the know, however, we can all do these simple things to improve our chances of getting work.
In this video I go over how I market my photography work and specifically look at the building blocks required for this. Every genre of photography will have slightly different requirements, especially those outside of the commercial photography world, but I think a lot of the points raised here work for pretty much every photographer, if not every business.
Throughout the video I talk about the importance of an identity as a photographer that is portrayed throughout your social media, website, and your portfolio and how to obtain this and keep the cohesion of brand and creative identity. Giving advice on how to build your first portfolio and what you should include in order to get noticed. I also pass on some advice that was recently given to me about how to get your book in front of the right people, and as importantly have them remember you and your work.
Commercial photography is a real tough genre to break into, but with the advice in this video you should be able to create your book, a website that both visually and technically sells who you are as well as gain an understanding on how to make social media work for you. Especially in regards to specifically targeting the right people rather than just looking to gain as many followers as possible.
