Tips on How to Make Your Photography a Career

Photography is a wonderful hobby to have and it's the passion of many, but most who pick up a camera will debate turning it into a career. If you're thinking about it, here are some tips.

I have written on the topic of turning your hobby into a career a few times. I was intent on keeping it a hobby until I realized there was nothing I'd rather do for a career and took the plunge. It's rarely an easy move to make and it takes a lot of hours spent working on it for a lot of years to reap rewards, but I regret nothing.

In this video, Eric Floberg discusses some tips on how he turned his photography into a career. One of the tips is one I found to be particularly useful back when I made the transition: collaborations. Now, this isn't necessarily just collaborating with a brand or person, but attempting to have multiple parties involved in each shoot. For example, in this video, Floberg has a florist involved in an engagement shoot. The more people and companies involved, the more your work will be used and shared, and you can make some great connections too. So, it becomes a powerful tool not only for exposure, but for networking too.
