Smart Objects and Why You Need To Use Them in Photoshop

In this video tutorial, watch as Abbey Esparza shows you all about Smart Objects in Photoshop and why you need to use them. This is definitely a good tutorial for those who still work destructively.

In the video, Esparza starts by telling us that it took her a while to start using Smart Objects in her workflow, and she wishes she had started a lot earlier. I agree with her that they are essential to a non-destructive workflow that we all should strive to work towards using. The first use Esparaza shows us is Smart Objects with masking, opening the object in a separate window and masking out certain elements. When you make these adjustments, you can see them in real-time.

As Esparza continues, we see how she also uses Smart Objects to mask out hair, something I have not seen before. And finally, we get on to the best feature: non-commitment. We can add as many adjustments to a Smart Object as we want, and because this is non-destructive, we can go back in at any time and adjust. This makes our workflow so much more efficient and hassle-free. it is especially good for blurring, which used to be a pain in earlier versions of Photoshop.

This tutorial is great for beginner and intermediate Photoshop artists who want to start utilizing the power of Smart Objects in their Photoshop photo manipulations. These techniques are straightforward and your workflow will be better.
