Adobe's update to Photoshop CC 2020 contains some powerful upgrades and tools but, like any software release, it also has some bugs, quirks and missing tools that users must adapt to. Or, if you take Colin Smith's advice, you can fix them yourself.
Smith, of PhotoshopCAFE, collected many of the complaints about the updated version of Photoshop CC 2020 that he saw on his social media channels and addressed them in this tutorial to ease users' transition from 2019 to the updated version. Among the things users immediately noticed missing from 2020 were the object selection tool, many of their old patterns and shapes, and their plugins.
Smith shows how the object selection tool and missing patterns and shapes are easily restored, but noted that most users' plugins won't work with the current app unless and until the plugin creators update them to match CC 2020's new architecture. Unlike the plugins, users can migrate their presets to the updated app. One key step to take is to keep Photoshop CC 2019 until you've got CC 2020 up and running to your liking. Both programs can run simultaneously, allowing users to export/import presets, custom brushes, etc.
Another quirk users are running into is the app is freezing when they try to use a gradient, but that problem is easily solved as well.

Transform tool has issues. I have to keep my cursor near the selection I want to "transform" or the entire "transform" disappear. However, by clicking one time near, I can then move the cursor away and the transform keeps working. Can't remember what the other thing was 2020 did but it was very weird and unusable but was related to a selection.
Otherwise, I like 2020. Not super great new things for my daily use, but much smoother than 2019
If you have to learn new ways to do things you've been doing all along, then perhaps it's time to learn a whole new photo editor, like Affinity Photo.
I have a much simpler solution to avoiding bugs in Adobe’s new PhotoShop 2020, and any of their other software, just divorce Adobe and switch to one of the many superior competitors.

So new and improved is actually less and less with users required to fix things themselves. AND we have to keep paying for new and improved???? Adios Adobe!!!!
If I do edit in Photoshop from Lightroom, Photoshop 2020 loading screen popsup but Photoshop never starts!
Photoshop 2020 isn't working with my GPU (GTX 1050), it's completely greyed out in the preferences. Tried updating drivers but no dice.
I've had to go back to using CC 2019 for now as no smooth scrolling was driving me nuts let alone the performance.
You've got something else weird happening. Photoshop 2020 is working fine with my 2013 GTX 960.
