5 Reasons You Might Be Making Couples Look Awkward in Portraits

Posing can be a tricky thing for a lot of photographer, and it can twice as tough when you are doing it with a couple. If you find you have trouble posing couples in a natural way, this great video will show you five reasons why your couples portraits might be a bit awkward.

Coming to you from our friend, Pye Jirsa, over at SLR Lounge, this excellent video discusses five reasons why your couples portraits might be looking a bit awkward. Posing couples can be especially tricky, both because you are working with two people simultaneously and because people can be uncomfortable in front of the camera, an effect which is magnified when you are asking them to show displays of affection. The toughest aspect for me has always been posing the hands. First, they are easy to overlook, especially when you are concentrating on showing the love the couple shares with each other, and people can get particularly awkward with them when they are dealing with another person in their personal space. Once I learned to keep track of the couple's hands, my portraits improved quite a bit. Check out the video above for lots of helpful tips from Jirsa.
