A Beginner's Guide to Camera Settings

When you are new to photography, your camera's exposure settings can seem like a confusing maze of abstract parameters, but getting to know them is crucial to taking control of your images and improving your work. This helpful video will get you acquainted with the three fundamental exposure parameters and show you how to use them in different shooting scenarios.

Coming to you from Saurav Sinha, this helpful video will introduce you to the fundamental exposure parameters and discuss how to use them in different shooting scenarios. Learning to take manual control of shutter speed, aperture, and ISO is crucial for any beginning photographer, as they are the three settings you'll use to control how every photo you take looks. The most important thing to understand is that the settings all control how much light is hitting the sensor or how much its signal is amplified in one way or another, and as such, when you modify one to achieve a certain look or purpose, you often have to compensate by changing another. Spend time with your camera in manual mode, varying these settings and seeing the effects they have on the resulting images. Check out the video above for the full rundown.
