Creating Uniquely Silky Fall Photos

Fall photography is by far one of the most popular subjects, and most often, photographers shoot it with an eye toward maximizing detail and nuance. Of course, however, that is not the only way to make fall images. This fantastic video takes a look at a different way of producing autumn photos that results in a silky, ethereal style.

Coming to you from Adam Gibbs, this great video follows him as he shoots fall images in shallow water. What I love about this method is that it is such a different take on the standard autumn shots, but it produces such lovely images. The trees and leaves are highly textured and detailed, but the gentle uniformity of the water provides a stark contrast in both texture and variation in color that provides fantastic balance to the image. Furthermore, that smoothness actually enhances the leaves and texture on the trees by increasing the viewer's focus on them by removing distractions caused by other areas of high texture or extremely varied color. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Gibbs.
