An Easy Tutorial for Getting a Great Wedding Photo

Weddings are a strange beast. Theoretically, they're full of opportunities for creative shots, but the time pressure often curtails too much exploration. It's best to go in with a plan — a photographic structured improvisation of sorts — for the more creative photos you want to get. This awesome video will walk you through exactly how to get one of those shots.

In this great tutorial, you'll learn how to direct and shoot a confetti send-off. Ed Gregory from Photos in Color offers a lot of great tips, but perhaps the most salient is the preparation, both in having a good plan in place and making everyone involved in the shot ready to act their parts. Also important, as Gregory mentions, is throwing the confetti up and over as opposed to at the couple. Not only does it look better, but no one likes a shot of the groom getting a ball of confetti to the face while someone does their best Corey Kluber impression. It's a great shot to have in your bag of tricks that shows off the lighthearted and happy atmosphere of the day and one that is certainly fun for all involved. The photo's ok. But The editing of this video is the most interesting point IMHO.

Thank you so much. I definitely had a lot of fun edit this video. quick, to the point and a little bit of fun.

Keep it up Ed. You got a good humble yet creative attitude. I like it a lot and I think I'm not alone. ;-)

Except its out of focus on the couple. Focus point hit the woman behind them.

He obviously missed out the point to lock in your focus spot

Good tips...

i like it. I would need to supply the confetti though. most weddings don't have it.

also any suggestions on proper confetti that won't get me yelled at for littering?

Depends on the venue. This was obviously a set up spot. Maybe take the wedding party somewhere that it might be easier to get away with it. Doesn't take much to make an image like this.

For this shoot i could only get glitter confetti but most venues are ok if you use dried petals. they are also a lot nicer. Happy you enjoyed the video.
