Coming to you from Photo Tom, this helpful video features him showing 15 of his landscape images and talking through his thought process in creating them, while also offering some tips for your own work. Personally, the best tip I have ever received was to learn to simplify my compositions. Most of us default to a wide angle lens when we do landscape photography, and while there is nothing inherently wrong with that, it can become problematic if the scene is busy. When we are there in person, it can be an amazing feeling to be overwhelmed by numerous natural elements, but that does not always translate to a good image. Simplifying your composition by picking just one or two prominent elements can often make for a much stronger, more compelling image. Check out the video above for lots of helpful tips.
