A Helpful Tutorial on Finding Compositions in Landscape Photography

There are many difficult aspects of landscape photography, but perhaps one of the trickiest to master is the art of composition. This helpful video tutorial will show you some great tips for finding and refining compositions in landscape photography.

Coming to you from Gary Gough, this great video will show you how to find better compositions in landscape photography and how to carefully fine-tune them to improve your work. Composition is a particularly tricky subject. Whereas you can objectively quantify things like exposure settings, composition is a more subjective concept that can't be readily codified into hard and fast rules. Nonetheless, there are common threads between many good photos, and learning those commonalities can give you some heuristic guidelines toward improving your own work. When I was first starting out, the most common mistake I made was not including a foreground element. This is especially important if you're using a wide angle lens; without one, such a lens tends to simply push everything in the frame away and make the image rather devoid of interest. Check out the video above for Gough's helpful tips.
