How to Remove Sunburn in Photoshop

Summer is here, and those of us who spent a cold winter indoors are venturing outside, only to come back in extra crispy a few hours later. Here's how to quickly remove sunburn in Photoshop and restore natural-looking skin.

After our never-ending winters finally come to a close in Ohio, there's a mad rush outside as soon as the mercury goes anywhere north of 50 degrees. Of course, we all overdo it and spend 14 hours a day outdoors, making up for six months of Vitamin D deficiency, only to come back burnt to a crisp. So, it's not uncommon to see a lot of rather sunburnt people in family photographs and the like around here. Luckily, we have Photoshop. This helpful tutorial from Nathaniel Dodson of tutvid shows you how to use a HSL adjustment to shift the skin back to its unburnt color. As Dodson mentions, be sure to use a soft-edge brush when masking it in to make the transitions smooth and imperceptible. It's a quick and highly effective way to get rid of sunburn or really any sort of redness in the skin. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go soak up all the rays I can.
