How to Use a Gimbal With a Manual Focus Lens

A gimbal is one of the best ways to quickly take your video footage to the next level, but if you are shooting with manual focus, it can be tricky to work with. This excellent video will show you three helpful tips to make it easier to use manual focus when you are also using a gimbal.

Coming to you from Matt WhoisMatt Johnson, this helpful video will give you three great tips to make it easier to use a manual focus lens on a gimbal without having to resort to something like a follow focus. A lot of videographers prefer to work with manual, and with the increasing popularity of mirrorless cameras, many more are turning to adapting vintage lenses as an affordable alternative to more expensive modern options. Of course, the problem is that gimbals work to constantly balance the camera and lens, and as such, constantly touching the payload can be problematic. It is not totally impossible, though, and learning how to do it can open up a lot of creative possibilities and allow you to work with a wider variety of lenses since you will not have to rely on autofocus. Check out the video above for the full rundown.

Matt is one on the better guys on youtube. Doesn't create videos just to pawn off a product or try and selling on something. More important he shows actual examples and not just quick thrown together shots for his sponsor.

Okay thank you for this video sir. I just got into photography, well it’s been a year now and I recently upgraded to a Nikon d750 and got a 50mm Manual lens f/1.4. And I’m a bit worried about the the fact that the lens can’t auto focus but I’ll try out your methods. It’s also the only lens I got since I’m working on a tight budget. But thank you
