Keep Persevering: Why Persistence Pays Off in Photography

If you're engaged in a genre like landscape photography, the simple truth is that no matter how prepared you are, there are things outside your control that may hamper your ability to get good images. This video is a great reminder that a bit of hard work and perseverance will pay off in the end.

There's a really beautiful spot in the Cleveland harbor with a lighthouse that serves as the perfect foreground element with the skyline in the background, but it's a bit of a pain to shoot, as it's on the opposite side of town from me, and I have to fight rush hour to get there at the right time, plus Cleveland weather is rarely the right aesthetic for the shot. So, there have been many times I've headed out there, only to be disappointed by a random influx of lake effect clouds or the like. And I'll be the first to admit that I've still tried to force a shot and edit it into existence, but I'm (of course) always disappointed when I attempt that. As this great video from Nigel Danson reminds us, we sometimes have to be patient and understand that the shot isn't there, but then use it as an opportunity to plan the perfect image for when that magical confluence of all the necessary factors is there. Notice how Danson notes what wasn't right at the time and thus, what he needs to change. This way, he knows exactly when to return to that spot.

Nigel's video reminds me so much of my time in South West of England. Been to the same spot time and again to capture that very special image. Thank you for sharing
