Photography Is Good for You

It can be easy to get caught up in the stresses that come with photography or life itself and to forget that photography is actually good for you. It is important to remind yourself every once in a while that photography is supposed to be an enjoyable thing that can do a lot of good for your overall happiness. This fantastic video does just that.

Coming to you from Thomas Heaton, this great video is an important reminder of the importance of enjoying photography. I think it is easy to forget sometimes, but the reason we all got into photography is because at some point, we picked up a camera and realized how much we enjoyed the process and the magic of making images. In particular, when we become professional photographers, the stress of tying something we love to our financial well-being can suck all the enjoyment out of the pursuit. Sometimes, just grabbing your camera and going out for a walk for a few hours can do wonders not only for your relationship with photography, but for your overall well-being and happiness as well, and with spring on the way, it's a great time to head out. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Heaton.

I love going out on a "hike" looking for photos to take. Even if I don't take a single shot, the fact that I went outside, enjoyed nature, and explored, makes for a great time. I actually did that earlier today right after work!

Same here. Even though I may not have been inspired enough by anything to try to photograph it, I find the mindfulness of being out in nature, mindful of what is around me, the weather, etc., is pretty much a relaxing, meditative experience.

Weather permitting, I'll be out in nature this weekend!

The sound of the film winding, the mechanical shutter clicking brought back old memories of shooting film decades ago, good memories, which indeed proves photography is good for us all.
The hesitancy to go out and shoot some days is almost always been rewarded after going out and taking pictures bringing them home and seeing them on my computer screen.
As far as finding your subject matter is concerned the phrase "You can't always get what you want, But if you try sometime you find, You get what you need"
Hopefully the snow clears and Thomas gets what he needs.
"Shooting sheep" will be the catchphrase I will remember and use on my next photowalk to remind me not to constrain myself with shooting my normal subject matter and hopefully provide me with some pleasant surprises.
