Some Helpful Tips for Better Family Holiday Portraits

With the holidays coming up, you might be thinking of offering family portrait sessions or simply putting together a shoot for your own family. This quick video will give you some great tips for getting the best portraits you can in as little time as possible.

Coming to you from David Flores with B&H Photo Video, this great video will give you some quick tips to make family holiday portraits quicker, easier, and better. Of all the tips, my personal favorite is erring on the side of keeping it simple. It can be very easy to overdo it in terms of your set or props or the like when doing these sorts of sessions, and this can have a few detrimental effects. First, if you're shooting lots of sessions, it can make you very inefficient. While you certainly want a holiday theme, the viewer doesn't need that much help figuring out what's going on. Second, too many props or the like can take the viewer's focus away from what really matters, the human connection during a special time. Lastly, it can make the photos a bit cliché. Check out the video above for more helpful tips!

Good post, thanks

Nice post! Get's me thinking about some family photos in the snow this year. The hard part is getting in the portrait yourself!
