When Photos Are Only 10% of Photography

It can be stressful as a photographer to constantly feel pressure to get a winning image, but it is important to remember why we became photographers in the first place. This excellent video discusses why we should remember that photos are not the only part of photography.

Coming to you from First Man Photography, this great video discusses the importance of simply enjoying the act of photography and everything that goes into it. Of course, if you are a professional taking money for a shoot, this is a different discussion. But if you are a hobbyist or simply shooting for your own enjoyment, it is important not to place too much pressure on yourself to get the shot. After all, we all first picked up a camera because it is something we loved, and losing sight of that can rob us of something that should make us happy. And during this time, when many of us cannot take on paid shoots, it is a great opportunity to reconnect with that love by taking on projects at home or simply taking a walk to shoot (while practicing proper safety precautions, of course). Check out the video above for the full rundown.

I am a hobbyist who makes no money from photography, and this resonated with me. I am happy that I can photograph at my own pace and focus on what I want, with no pressure to produce anything. I do strive to get better, but it’s just for me and not to earn a living. I am curious how professional photographers feel about the topic.
