I shot this photograph for Tim Kemple's Guidebook. The book was already in prepress. The publisher told me that if I gave him something good enough they would pull the book and add it. So I knew that I had to really create some drama. Pat McGuigan is so strong that he was doing this V8 dyno move really easily. Which stripped the emotion from his face and made the shot look boring. I made him do this 20-30 times until he got tired. Once he got tired he almost missed making him have to try extra hard to hold on. Which made it look like it actually was hard for him and added the emotion I wanted. I also killed the ambient and added in the rim light to really give it pop.

I like the photo, but the backstory almost makes me feel sorry for the subject. :-)

Those mats...i mean it makes sense that they’re there for safety, but inwish they are cropped out...great shot though!
