South African artist Chris Slabber’s ‘Destruction/Creation’ series examines the destructive nature of creation through delicate ‘sculptures’ of swirling paint suspended in water. Incorporating photo manipulation in post-processing, Slabber molds delicate faces from a chaos of color.
Slabber’s series surrounds the idea that destruction and creation are deeply connected. Discussing his series, Slabber says, “The idea…was to show that from Destruction comes Creation. As the paint falls there is a constant point of creation, but at the same time it destroys itself.”
Inspired by the work of Alberto Seveso, Slabber’s series evokes a sense of peace amidst chaos as the viewer observes a moment frozen in time, before the sculptures’ inevitable destruction.
