This recent project by photographer Anastasia Pottinger aims to document the deterioration but also the resulting beauty of the human body as it crosses the 100 year mark. Every sag, every wrinkle, and every age spot on display in all its glory. Though perhaps a little bit haunting and a reminder of what we can all look forward to the photos manage to capture the raw essence of human beauty in its later years.

As part of her "Centenarians" project, Anastasia Pottinger, was approached by a 101 year old woman who requested to be photographed in the nude. The only condition being that she remain anonymous. The anonymity of the images plays well with the theme as it allows the viewer to immediately attach their own fears of mortality to the images due to the lack of identity.

With the recent outcry among some photographers against the use of Photoshop to manipulate human beauty this series of images should satisfy even the harshest critic. No skin smoothing, pore reduction, liquifying, or healing found here.

Beautiful images, it's sad to think anyone would see these as NSFW.

I agree, Chris. Where are the NSFW in this?

Work places are fiiiiilled with stuck ups and snitches. While I agree that it's CLEARLY art and not "granny porn", Kyle from internal mail might not see that....

It's a SAD thing...

Great images. I like the anonymity. It's much like the speechless enigmatic protagonists in video games. It allows for the viewer to project themselves onto the subject. And I agree, this is a really unsettling set of images on a personal front. A part of me hopes I don't live to be 100 (unless I can download my consciousness into a super cool android type thing)

Just fling me off a bridge.

Thanks for this!

While the images are beautiful from an artist standpoint, I can't help but freak out a little.

While the body will age and the mind lose sharpness... 'tis the heart and soul which eternally retain the beauty, wonder, and spirit of our youth. I'll always choose the depth of the inner person over the vapid shallowness of the perpetual inhabitants of salons and cosmetics counters.. Should my wife, who has always been beautiful in my eyes, reach 101 and I am still alive to see it... I shall love her just as I did when she was 16. Even more. These photos are wonderful.
