10 Essential Accessories — and Great Gift Ideas — for Photographers

If you’re pondering a gift for the photographer in your life or, more likely, you’re a photographer trying to give a loved one some last-minute ideas on what to get you for Christmas, look no further.

Photographer Allison Anderson has compiled her list of ten must-have photography accessories and, as lists go, it’s a good one, especially as there’s something there to suit pretty much every budget. For example, the inventively-named SmallRig AAK2371 Explorer Folding Screwdriver Kit is just $27.49 and comes with various hex keys, a Philips head and a flathead screwdriver.

If you’re in the market for a strap, Anderson is right about the Peak Design anchor system but you might want to check out the new offerings from WANDRD. I’m in the middle of writing a review of their three new straps — neck/shoulder/, wrist, and lanyard. The means of attaching the various straps is innovative and while it’s not quite as quick-release as the Peak Design system, it does mean that you don’t leave anything flapping around on every single camera that you own.

What would you add to this list? Let us know your ideas in the comments below.

Andy Day is a British photographer and writer living in France. He began photographing parkour in 2003 and has been doing weird things in the city and elsewhere ever since. He's addicted to climbing and owns a fairly useless dog. He has an MA in Sociology & Photography which often makes him ponder what all of this really means.

Oh good, it's another 10 minute video that could have been written out as a list that I could have read in 30 seconds. Thanks for that.

amen

I heard they are changing the name of this site to thingsthatwelikedonyoutube .com

Since this was too hard for the author to do himself, below is the list of items from the video. Kind of pointless to put this out when there really isn’t enough time to get most, if any, of these things delivered, but there they are if you’re interested.

Vallerret Urbex Gloves
Smallrig Explorer Folding Screwdriver Kit
Aputure MC RGB Light
ONA Bond Street Bag (smaller)
ONA Bowery Bag (bigger)
Peak Design Capture Clip
Peak Design Slide-Lite Strap
Peak Design Tech Pouch
Hard SD Card Case
Samsung T7 SSD
Adobe Lightroom

thank you for this.

honestly wish they just put this name list and some pictures of the items instead of a 10 minute video

While I would wish for that too, it would basically mean stealing the contents of someone else’s work, so that’s why they post just links to YouTube when it’s not their own video.

I agree that it annoys me a lot too, which is why I now mostly just skip over these “articles”.

This one excepted, obviously... 😃

The true hero

Thank you. You saved 10 minutes of my life

#1 fits perfectly for all people living in the warmer climates ..

I've got a SmallRig... bad place to pause... folding tool set, too. Different model, but same tools. Handy thing to have.
