However, in the last few years, we have seen an influx of third-party lenses that are significantly cheaper than first-party options. Coming to you from Julia Trotti, this great video review takes a look at the Samyang AF 85mm f/1.4 for mirrorless cameras. Up until a few years ago, Samyang lenses were known for being very affordable and quite sharp lenses, albeit manual focus in design only. However, the company has begun making autofocus lenses, which makes them far more viable in a variety of genres. The AF 85mm f/1.4 is one such optic and quite an interesting one at that, as it significantly undercuts the price of comparable first-party lenses, which are frequently well north of $2,000. However, as you can see in the video, it still offers impressive performance and sharpness, perhaps good enough that unless you absolutely need the very best out there, you can save tremendous amounts of money by opting for it over more expensive options. No, not everyone shoots wide open all the time. But for a review video testing the extreme is of course more interesting.
If you review a car you also test max acceleration/deceleration, dodging wildlife, and so on. Trip to walmart is not so interesting...
