Canon Announces PowerShot G1 X Mark III

Canon Announces PowerShot G1 X Mark III

Despite retaining the same series name, the Mark III version of the G1 X is more than just iterative. This much is immediately apparent when one notices the larger, semi-pro level APS-C 24MP sensor and Digic 7 processor inside this new, compact point-and-shoot. I haven't been as excited about a compact APS-C camera since ill-fated and short-lived Nikon Coolpix A. Moreover, the Mark III features an entirely redesigned body that puts even more distance between itself and the Mark II.

A built-in 3x zoom lens gives the camera a 35mm-equivalent focal length range of 24-72mm. While the new G1 X doesn't feature 4K recording, 1080p at 60 fps, 9 fps stills shooting at up to ISO 25,600, a built-in electronic viewfinder, a 3-inch articulating and rotating touchscreen, a pop-up flash, dual pixel CMOS AF with image stabilization, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and NFC, and dust- and water-resistant construction all round out the G1 X Mark III extremely well.

For this list of features, however, you'll pay a hefty $1,299. While price and the 1/2000 limit on the shutter speed might be a bit of a turn-off, Canon has still created a camera it's hoping will be the king of sub-multi-thousand-dollar compact cameras. Pending a proper review to test out its features, the G1 X Mark III certainly ticks all the right boxes — at least on paper.

Pre-orders are available now and will deliver toward the end of November.

Oh look another Canon without 4k.

I wonder what it is that they can't seem to figure this one out.

They have figured it out (well at least they think so...) Sadly it has been Canon's policy to protect their pro grade line, they trickle down as less as possible the tech of their high end cameras to the prosumer and entry level lines of products, which is dumb since most of their revenue isn't coming from their pro line but it comes from their prosuner and mostly from their entry level cameras.

They have done this since they started in the digital age... And I say this as a Canon user.

1300$, wow canon. Wow

Or in sony language, a6000 with kit lens for HALF the price

Another price that offends the intelligence of consumers. I'm Canon user but they know how to disappoint in terms of price and specs

A CIPA rating of 200 shot per charge -50% using flash. You will need at least 2-3 extra batteries and maybe more for a whole days shoot, then comes the task of charging all the batteries one by one, unless they have a multi battery charger like for Sony A9. Wonder who this camera is for?

Sadly this is the price of wanting small cameras, the batteries have to be smaller but with this said... Canon is lagging behind the competition when it comes to battery life with their compact cameras.

A very expensive camera that going off the specs, should have been released 3-4 years ago. Canon, you fall further and further behind.

$1300 camera - no 4k video or mic jack. Come on Canon..........
