Canon RF 24-240mm f/4-6.3 IS USM Officially Announced

First teased earlier this year along with five other RF lenses in development at that time, the RF 24-240mm f/4-6.3 IS USM lens has now been officially announced with more details and will start shipping next month.

This entry-level zoom is the second of what may be referred to as “beginner” lenses, following the $449 RF 35mm f/1.8 IS Macro STM. If the RF 24-240mm seems like it would make for a good pairing as a kit lens to the EOS RP, Canon agrees and plans to sell them as a bundle at a later date.

This 10x optical zoom lens is lightweight for its class, weighing 1.65 pounds (750 grams). Paired with the Canon EOS RP, the setup would weigh only 2.77 pounds (1,255 grams) total.

Where you may expect to find three rings like the other RF zoom lenses, the RF 24-240mm f/4-6.3 has a two-ring design. Rather than a zoom ring, focus ring, and a control ring, this lens shares one ring for the functions of a focus ring and control ring and can be toggled between the two with a selector switch. There will also be no clicks while rotating the ring in the control ring setting.

The RF 24-240mm sports a Nano USM autofocus motor and has been rated for five stops of image stabilization. This optical image stabilization can be combined with the EOS R-series cameras’ Dynamic Movie IS setting for even more shake compensation while recording videos. The new zoom lens has a close focusing distance of 19.7 inches (0.5 meters) at the wide end and 27.5 inches (0.7 meters) at the long end.

The Canon RF 24-240mm f/4-6.3 IS USM has a price of $899 and will begin shipping in September 2019.

lol.

For a garbage lens this ain’t so bad...

Just sinking the dagger deeper and deeper with every release.

Nonsense hyperbole. Ignorance is bliss i guess.

I think that it's great that they're finally releasing a lens to suit the actual cameras that they have in the market.

Exactly ! Couldn’t have said it better

Let's see; make a post that garners emotional reaction. Yep! Classic troll!

At least you get it

"This entry-level zoom is the second of what may be referred to as “beginner” lenses".

This might be true to a certain extend, especially for photos, but this lens will also serve people (like me) that want to video record certain sports (soccer, baseball, football, etc.) happening on large surfaces, where you need to go wide at times as well as zoom in, depending on the action going on... I presently do that type of work with a 80D and EF-S 18-135mm combo and I get paid decent money for it. But being able to do it on a full frame camera with that 24-240mm lens would be great for me!

That kind of range is lacking even in the EF mount lenses (unless you want to pay a big amount of $$ for the now old 28-300mm L lens (push and pull for zooming in or zooming out)
