Canon Has Two New Lenses Coming This Year: What Would You Like to See?

Canon has revealed that it will announce two more RF lenses before the end of 2021. Which lenses can we expect and what would you like the Japanese manufacturer to add to the lineup?

Canon has unveiled its financial results for the third quarter of 2021 and mentions in its report that it plans to announce two more RF-mount lenses before the end of December. There are currently 24 RF lenses, including the recently released 5.2mm f/2.8L, and Canon promises a total of 26 before the year is out.

The last couple of lenses have been a little unexpected: the immensely affordable 16mm f/2.8 STM has been a welcome addition (and might be a hint that an RF APS-C camera is somewhere in the future), while the 5.2mm f/2.8L is very much a niche product designed primarily for use in virtual reality. You can see a complete list on Canon’s website.

There are certainly plenty of gaps to be filled, with more wide angle primes — 14mm, 20mm, 24mm, and 28mm — yet to emerge. We’re also missing some tilt-shift lenses, not to mention an f/1.4 (or even f/1.2?) 35mm L-series lens. For zoom lenses, customers might appreciate a compact, variable aperture, non-L lens that might go as wide as 18mm, and may also pair well with a crop-sensor body.

Given the release of the R3, we might see Canon start to fill out its telephotos a little further, especially given that there's a sense that the R1 might not be too far away.

Which lenses are you expecting, and what should Canon make next? Let us know in the comments below.

It would be great to see Canon come out with RF versions of the 800 f5.6 and 600mm f4 sooner, rather than later.

That's so great! I had no idea. Thanks!

RF 24mm f/1.8

Maybe a RF 135mm f2 IS? The old EF 135/2 is still great, but ... rather slow focusing on my EOS R (maybe it's better on the R6 or R5/R3).

Tilt shifts.

Also, I would love to see some modern mid-grade 1.4 primes. I used to have the EF 50mm 1.4 and it was not great.

Been dying for the 35mm tilt shit already!

tilt shit... lol! common typo for me too. I would love a 35mm TSE though!

RF 135L, RF 35L.
