Check Out Canon's Neat New Bokeh Control in the RF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM Lens

A good medium telephoto macro lens is an extremely versatile optic, offering the ability to shoot extreme close-ups and also doubling as a sharp portrait option. Canon's new RF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM comes with increased magnification and a neat bokeh control feature, and this video shows it in action.

In this video posted by Canon Europe, this neat video will show you what it is like working with the new RF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM lens. This new lens comes with a variety of features, but the two headline-grabbing specs are its improved magnification (from 1x to 1.4x) and its Spherical Aberration Control Ring, which allows you to adjust the shape and character of foreground and background bokeh. In addition, it comes with a variety of other useful features, such as an optical image stabilizer with up to 5 stops of compensation (8 stops when used in tandem with in-body image stabilization), Super Spectra coating for reduced flares and ghosting and increased contrast, fast and quiet autofocus via a Dual Nano USM system, dust- and moisture-sealing, and a customizable Control Ring. Altogether, it looks like a worthy successor to the already impressive EF version. Check out the video above to see it in action.

I'm not sure if it's "neat". It seems you can only have your subject in "sharp" focus when SA = 0. So what's the point?

Nikon did this many years ago back in 1990 when they introduced the 105/135 f2.0 DC lenses... Although they are not macro lenses, for head and shoulders it is the same thing. Old tech into new tech,

The new bokeh control feature is garbage and just a gimmick! as someone said here the only way to get your subject sharp is with SA=0. I am not so impressed by the new RF lenses, yes they are a bit sharper but much bigger and heavier than their EF counterparts (at least the f1.2 fast primes and the f2 zoom ) they only reduced the size of their 70-200 (however giving up in quality and dust resistance).
