Today, DJI has announced their newest product, the Osmo Action. This camera stacks up pretty well with the GoPro Hero 7 and even has some features GoPro doesn't offer, like the front-facing screen. On top of that, Osmo Action boasts some in-camera stabilization that DJI refers to as "rocksteady," which will be competing against GoPro's "hypersmooth" stabilization.
To be honest, Osmo Action is very similar to the GoPro Hero 7, but it is just another option to choose from. DJI is known for their convenience and ease of use, so I can definitely see a good amount of people being drawn to this new product, especially when DJI has everything else a creative needs.
With its rugged, shockproof, dustproof, and waterproof design, this could be the most durable product DJI has ever released. This camera has a 2.25" rear screen and a 1.4" front screen pushing out 750 nits. On a first look next to the Hero 7, I saw a big difference in screen size, which may play out to be really beneficial.
Osmo Action has a 1/2.3 inch sensor shooting at 12 MP (my apologies for saying 11 in the video!). This camera can shoot in 4K up to 60 fps at 100 Mbps. It can also shoot 1080p 4x (120 fps) or 8x (240 fps). Comparing the footage to a GoPro, I think we may find that Osmo Action will have less distortion than the Hero 7.
With plenty of accessories to come, this could be another great tool to throw in your camera bag. Priced at $349, Osmo Action is just $50 cheaper than the Hero 7 with almost all of the same features plus more. It is available for preorder starting today and will be in authorized dealers on May 22nd.
