Leica M-E (Typ 240) Announced, Lowers Cost of Entry to M System

Next month, Leica is adding the full-frame mirrorless Leica M-E (Typ 240) to their lineup of M-system rangefinder cameras. Is the price low enough to gain a larger following?

At $3,995, the new Leica M-E is priced down from the nearly $6,000 Leica M Typ 240 and the $7,495 Leica M-P. Regardless, Leica promises a red-dot experience through design, construction, and image quality.

The design is classic Leica, with a magnesium alloy body and brass top plate finished in anthracite gray paint with black cowhide leather. Rubber seals upgrade the camera to dust and weather resistant. The 3-inch, 920k-dot rear LCD also uses Gorilla Glass for added scratch protection.

The new Leica M-E features a 24-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor with an ISO range of 200 to 6,400 (expandable down to ISO 100). The 2 GB memory buffer allows the camera to shoot at 3 frames per second at the full 24 megapixels.

Also being promoted is “the Leica look in Full HD.” The new Leica M-E can shoot 1080p videos up to 24 fps in MOV and M-JPEG formats. Along with a built-in microphone, the digital rangefinder also has a microphone input.

You had my curiosity… but now you have my attention.

Lovely piece of gear. Still a lot of money.

4k$ for a camera without auto focus.
Sounds legit.

Get a Fuji.
Looks also vintage, but is actually a pro camera.

The m240 was a great camera, but for that amount of money is just better to go for a used m10.
