New Entry-Level GoPro HERO Is Only $199, Available Now

Today GoPro announced their latest “go-anywhere, capture-anything” HERO action camera for $199. This is the cheapest introductory price for a full-featured GoPro camera ever.

Positioning the new entry-level HERO towards first-time users, GoPro hopes to make their action cameras “accessible to all.” GoPro Senior Vice President of Product Meghan Laffey said, “HERO is a great first GoPro for people looking to share experiences beyond what a phone can capture … HERO makes it easy to share ‘wow’ moments at a price that’s perfect for first-time users.” Part of this effort is to do away with customers having to deal with removing SD cards or hooking up the GoPro to the computer to download your media. Instead, they are promoting the use of the GoPro app to automatically offload photos and videos.

The new GoPro HERO shoots 1440p60 and 1080p60 videos and 10-megapixel stills. It features video stabilization and is waterproof up to 30 feet (10 meters). The backside has a two-inch touchscreen display and the built-in voice control can start and stop recording, turn off the camera, plus more.

You can learn more about the new $199 GoPro HERO and place orders now on B&H Photo.

i think the knock offs that are out now are just as good and still 1/2 the price of these.

It varies, having tested a few of the knock offs I find the video quality is a step down, especially in low light. (At least compared to GH6, not sure how this one will compare)

The Yi seems to be hold very well

This is what they should have released 2 years ago, minus the app-only offload.

From the specs on B&H it looks like it still takes mico SD cards. The way this article phrases that GoPro is promoting the use of the app instead of using the sd cards to offload media is confusing/misleading.

It's sad to see a once great and groundbreaking company disintegrate into a worthless pile of shit. Greed got the best of them. I knew the moment they went public it would be the end of them. They went from adventurous risk takers and innovators to shareholder ass-kissers. Next...

I feel like it was less greed and more about their ego. They thought their brand sold itself... had to learn the hard way that the market is only loyal to better products or or lower prices and they're focusing on lower prices now as it seems.

To a degree I can agree with you comments, but GoPro started falling apart after they went public. It's all about the money.

Well, shareholders but I get what you're saying.

Only one timelapse mode. Forget it.

I don't know why anyone would buy this camera instead of a, now two years old, Yi 4K that sells for less and can do a lot more..

If GoPro thinks they were killed by the cheap competition, they should think about competing again with their products.
