The Canon 1D X Mark III was recently released with some truly astounding specs, most notably a 20 fps burst rate with the mechanical shutter and 5.5K raw video at 60 fps. Now, attention is turning toward the Nikon camp, as the company prepares to announce the D6, the next iteration of their flagship DSLR.
Nikon Rumors is reporting that the Nikon D6 will likely be announced on or around February 12, with two new Z mount mirrorless lenses likely coming around the same time as well. The two new lenses will likely be the Nikkor Z 20mm f/1.8 S and the Nikkor Z 24-200mm, a variable aperture zoom with a maximum aperture of f/6.3. Given that the 20mm is an f/1.8 and the 24-200mm is variable aperture, both will likely be midrange, more affordable lenses, keeping in line with most of the Z mount lenses released thus far.
The D6 has some rumored specifications including things like a 20-megapixel sensor, 14 fps burst rate, improved autofocus, 4K 60p video, and better high ISO performance, all things professionals expect to be improved in such a body. There are no further specs available on the two aforementioned lenses; nonetheless, it is good to see the company continue to expand their mirrorless lineup, and of course, it's certainly exciting to see what the new D6 will bring!
I was expecting the 14-24 f/2.8 for Z-mount. It is kind of a gaping hole in their portfolio at this point.
Is there something about the 14-30mm that you didn't like? Unless you're doing astro, the f4 version is very nice. It's small size is very filter friendly.
I agree, id much rather have that lens with the ability to use normal filters on it.
I was commenting on their Z-mount portfolio. Having the 3 main f/2.8 zooms seems to be important. I am happy with the lighter f/4 versions of the lenses. They put the 14-24 f/2.8 on their roadmap at one point, so I was expecting to see it early this year as it would complete their f/2.8 trinity.
I have a dedicated astro lens, and generally shoot with the 16-35mm f/4.
The 24-200mm, if this is to be believed, seems redundant. Unless it is a cheap lens or crop lens for the Z50.
