A Review of the Canon RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1L IS USM Lens

When Canon announced its RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1L IS USM lens, a lot of photographers were a bit perplexed by the f/7.1 maximum aperture at the telephoto end. Nonetheless, it is a versatile lens, and this great video review takes a look at how it performs in practice. 

Coming to you from Gordon Laing, this excellent video review takes a look at the new Canon RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1L IS USM lens. With a very wide focal length range, the lens looks to be a versatile optic for a wide range of photographers and applications. It has the following features:

  • Six UD (Ultra-Low Dispersion) elements and one Super UD element for reduced chromatic aberrations and improved clarity
  • Optical Image Stabilizer that offers up to five stops of compensation and three different working modes
  • Dual Nano USM focusing system with full-time manual override when using one-shot AF mode
  • Customizable Control Ring that can control various settings
  • Fluorine coating on both front and rear elements to protect against fingerprints and smudges
  • Weather- and dust-resistance
  • Zoom ring with adjustable torque
  • Lens hood with slide window for adjusting rotating filters more easily
