The Sigma 100-400mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary Lens Is Now Shipping

It's a great time to be a Sigma user. With the release of numerous exciting and innovative lenses priced competitively, the company is changing the lens market in a big way. Now, the 100-400mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary is available for preorder.

Whereas some of their recent announcements have been extreme lenses, such as the 135mm f/1.8 DG HSM Art, the 100-400mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary is a very practical option for photographers looking to add a telephoto zoom to their bag without digging too deeply into their wallets. At $799, it significantly undercuts the $2,000 range held by the  and , though those are both still great options. Though it's slightly slower, the difference is only a third of a stop, but the tradeoff makes the lens very small and light, coming in at just 2.55 lbs. It also features a push/pull zoom in addition to a rotary zoom for quick focal length changes, a short minimum focusing distance of 5.5 ft., a dust and splash-proof mount, optical stabilization, a nine-bladed aperture, and four super-low dispersion elements. Altogether, it's a very affordable option for photographers who want a light telephoto option with good image quality. Get yours here.

I preordered mine as soon as I heard it could be pre-ordered. I got it on May 16 (2 days ago). I used it yesterday and it seems good. This is good news for Nikon users.

Bad news for Canon users, however.
