Sigma Announces the 50mm f/1.4 DG DN Art Lens

Sigma's Art line of lenses have long been popular for offering superlative image quality at prices that are often significantly more affordable than first-party options. Today, the series welcomes its newest member, the 50mm f/1.4 DG DN Art.

The new 50mm f/1.4 DG DN Art is designed for full frame mirrorless cameras and brings with it the promise of excellent image quality, autofocus performance, and balanced size and weight.

Here's what you can expect from the new lens:

  • Mounts: Sony E, L mount
  • New optical formula designed to take advantage of shorter flange distance in mirrorless cameras
  • Highly improved sagittal coma flare 
  • Cleaner bokeh
  • HLA (High-response Linear Actuator for quick and quiet autofocus suitable for both photo and video work
  • Dust- and splash-resistant build
  • Manual aperture ring with click and lock switches
  • AFL button
  • 11 rounded aperture blades for particularly smooth bokeh
  • 14 elements in 11 groups
  • 3 aspherical lenses and 1 SLD glass element for suppressing aberrations and field curvature
  • Super Multi-Layer Coating for reduced flares and ghosting and deeper contrast
  • Petal hood
  • Weight: 670 g (23.6 oz)

Expect the new 50mm f/1.4 DG DN Art to be available later this month at $849.

I think I m getting a.. Sony up next!

Only $849. Every time third parties launch lenses like this, it's a kick in the balls to Canon.

Why use this when you can just use the excellent updated RF 50 1.4 from Canon? It's surely one of the most desired and reliable lenses..

Oh wait

Maybe it would be if they actually made it! Canon refuses to update to this lens so they can force buyers to get the huge and expensive L version.

The nifty fifty or the huge expensive 50 1.2. What a great set of choices :/ If I wasn't invested in canon there's probably no way I would buy a canon.
