Thinking of Buying Some New Gear? Watch This First

No doubt, almost all of us are tempted by new gear at one time or another; after all, cameras and lenses are exciting technology. However, they are not cheap, and if you planning to invest in new equipment, it is important to ensure that you are doing so for the right reasons. This excellent video essay discusses the topic and offers some important advice in the process.

Coming to you from Signature Edits, this great video essay discusses the topic of buying new camera gear and how to ensure you are doing it correctly. One particularly salient point I found in the video is the idea that producing compelling imagery is about your resourcefulness, not the gear. There are, of course, certain situations that call for specific equipment, but at the end of the day, the best photographers can make eye-catching images with even cheap equipment because they have a strong command of light, composition, and more. Simply put: if you are thinking of buying a new camera or lens to solve an issue with your photos, the vast majority of the time, it won't, and you'll be left with a lighter wallet and the same issue as before. Check out the video above for the full rundown.
