Why You Should Use a Telephoto Lens for Landscape Photography

For the most part, landscape photographers generally use wide angle lenses, as most scenes require a wide focal length to capture them all in one frame. That does not mean telephoto lenses can't be used, however, and this excellent video shows you the unique photos you can create with one.

Coming to you from Michael Shainblum, this fantastic video will show you how a 100-400mm lens can make for eye-catching landscape images. The majority of the time, we default to using a lens like a 16-35mm for landscape work, and there is certainly nothing wrong with that, but much longer focal lengths can be used to pick off individual details in the frame and create more abstract images. I think these automatically give you a leg up simply because we are so used to seeing wider images that those made with a longer focal length instantly jump out to the eye. On top of that, you can get way more photos out of one scene simply by carrying some extra focal lengths. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Shainblum.
