The World's First Sony E to Nikon Z Autofocus Lens Adapter Is Here

In a world first, lens adapter specialists Techart PRO have unveiled a Sony E to Nikon Z autofocus adaptor. The kit allows a Sony lens to attach to a Nikon body, something that has never previously been possible.

The new adapter is entitled TZE-01. It was required to be incredibly thin, so as to accommodate the mere 2mm difference in flange distance between the Sony E and Nikon Z mounts.

The company have managed to squeeze a CPU chip into the tiny adapter. Totaling just several millimeters thickness in total, the chip is able to translate the signals between equipment from the two different camera brands.

Autofocus, auto-aperture, and lens stabilization capabilities are all preserved by the adapter. AF-S, AF-C, and MF modes will still work on the Nikon Z6 and Z7, and features like Face/Eye detection, EXIF reading, and time-lapse shooting can be used as well.

Techart said:

Phase-detect AF is used and therefore the AF speed is on par with using native Z mount lenses on the cameras.

Future firmware updates to the dock can be applied using a separate lens dock that’s included with the adapter for free. Samyang and Rokinon E-mount lenses aren’t currently supported by the adapter, although this may be amended in future firmware updates. Sigma lenses, however, currently work.

The kit isn’t without its flaws, though. As is often the case with third party adapters, the reverse engineering mechanics behind it mean there are known bugs, which TechArt have openly listed on their website.

Check out the video, too, to see the company showcasing their new product.

The Techart Sony E to Nikon Z Autofocus Adapter is up for pre-order now, retailing for $249. The first adapters should begin shipping next week, around June 24th.

Why ?? Wouldn’t it be better to use Nikon or Canon lenes on a Sony Camera rather than the other way around??
You don’t need adapters to non senseless..

But, why, though? I'm sure Nikon has whatever Sony has.

The only one that I can think of would be the new Sony 135mm f/1.8.

Like a complete lineup of modern, mirrorless ff lenses?

Maybe to attract customers who have made a significant investment in Sony glass. ProRes raw does sound interesting.

There's a specific lens I want this for - Sony 28-135mm f/4 PZ for filming.

So you can pay more for lenses lol. I'm a Sony shooter and I'm baffled as to why anyone would do this.

Voigtländer Heliar Hyper Wide 10mm f/5.6 Aspherical E-mount Lens

maybe it works with Sigma MC-11 and can adapt Canon Lenses ;)

Hm... impressive, and yet useless to most users. Why not to have Canon EF to Z or even RF to Z (also 2mm deep.)

RF to Z is probably doable, that's 4 mm difference. That's the great thing about the Z, it's the most universal mount!

I just wish someone would make a Fuji to Nikon one, got some DX lenses that would work a treat on the Fuji body, plus some of the old Nikon primes would be nice too.

ehm... WHY?!?!? i'm thinking to switch from Nikon to Sony but the problem is i have to much nikon lenses... i would rather have the adapter (fully functional and performing) to mount Nikon F lenses on the sony A9 or A7R...
edit: hmmm... maybe for the new 200-600mm :)

I have received mine and have been using the tiny Sony Zeiss 35mm f2.8 on my Z6. Focus is usually reliable but have had a few times when the display showed eye or face in focus but the shutter didn't depress as if were out of focus. VR works but not as well as the Nikkor Z 24-70 - maybe a stop less. The 35mm lens is 1.5" long including adapter, compared to 4.5" (3x!) for the Nikon Z set at 35mm.

The instructions are in Chinese and I have no idea how to know when it's charged up or depleted using the rear cap USB interface.

The moment Nikon releases a competing lens (sadly not on the roadmap) I'll sell the Sony and get the Z.
