Following for the comments, but I'll bite as well.

The images in GQ and Vogue require photographer experience, retouching, great models, and great makeup/hair/wardrobe stylists/creative teams. Let alone the gear. I'm sure plenty are taken in just natural light, but I'd guess plenty more are taken in natural light with assistance of modifiers of some type or rather in studio.

You can take great photos in natural light, just requires practice. Go try it :).

And I don't have any handy but I'm sure there are plenty of Photoshop tutorials on this site and thousands more a Google away.

Bottom line, shoot a lot and study what you want to learn!

This is my opinion and take note that i don't shoot for big magazines, only for some local ones and for a national make-up mag. The last thing that you should think of is the equipment. Those images that you are talking about have tones of people involved and numerous hours/days of preparations in advance. So what you'll have to do is to find yourself a team to work with. (make-up artist, hair stylist, stylists of all kind...beginners like you) and start doing your won projects and learn from that...and don't be affraid to reproduce images from big photographers! Good luck dude!
