Actor Headshot

Hey everyone! I am new to Fstoppers and am hoping to network with all sorts of photographers. One of the most important aspects of photography (to me) is to learn so I always appreciate constructive criticism and feedback on my work.
What are your thoughts?

A few suggestions: The overall exposure is a little too dark and flat for me and it looks like you've dodged her eyes to make the whites brighter. When I view the photo as a whole, the eyes look like unnaturally bright dots. She appears to be wearing a white shirt that is lacking contrast in the folds of the fabric, adding to the flatness of the image. For my own B&W conversions, I tend to make the skin tones much brighter than this so the skin has a nice "glow."

The crop is slightly awkward. Her eyes are to the left of the center of the photo and you usually want to have your subject's face looking "into" the photo. In other words, her face should be predominantly on the right side so her eyes are on the right looking left instead of on the left looking left. I might crop a tiny bit from the right and top of the image, but you really could use more room on the left side to avoid cutting off her arms. Or maybe a tighter crop to eliminate all of these issues.

I think your edit enhances the image, Phillip.

Thanks. Just a simple crop and adjustment of the luminosity curve.
