10 of the Weirdest Digital Cameras Ever Made

The form of the digital cameras has become relatively standardized. There are certainly variations from manufacturer to manufacturer, but the basic design is generally stable across companies. That was not always the case, however, particularly in the early days of digital. This neat video takes a look at 10 of the weirdest digital cameras ever made and just what made them so unique.

Coming to you from Gordon Laing and DPReview TV, this fun video examines 10 of the weirdest digital cameras ever made. In fairness, my pick for the weirdest camera ever made isn't digital, but it is a fun mention: the Rollei 35 series. Introduced at the 1966 Photokina, the Rollei 35 was neither rangefinder nor SLR; it was a true zone-focusing camera and was the smallest 135 film camera ever made at the time. It came with a lens that retracted nearly flat, a hot shoe on the bottom of the body that mounted the flash upside-down, and an in-viewfinder LED metering system. It is quirky and a hoot to use, but somehow, it all works and makes for a fun and unique experience, which is why I have two: one to shoot with and one that lives on display. Check out the video above to see more weird cameras!

Fun video - yes some wacky cameras over the years. It's seems tame in comparison now. As described in the video they were throwing things at the wall to see what sticks. Funny it ended up with a very standard product much like a film camera except of tilting backs.

Loved the 990 - the form factor was quite unique and allowed for unnoticed/unobtrusive street photography and produced some excellent images.

The Sony F### series was quite nice. Loved the one with the infrared setting.

Good video! Thanks.

Chris!! Where's Jordan??! He would have been the perfect addition to this video!
