Photographer Receives Cancellation Request After Supporting Gay Marriage And Responds Perfectly

There has been a lot of fan fare about the recent legislation that allows nationwide marriage for gay couples in the USA but not everyone is happy or excited. One photography business has been the target of this intolerance when their support of gay marriage resulted in a cancellation request from a wedding client. The response they provided was perfect.

As I am sure most of you have noticed by now, your Facebook feeds are full of rainbow colored profile pictures. This is no coincidence but rather a celebration of the monumental legislation that allows for nationwide gay marriage in the USA. Florida based Brentwood Photography did their part to participate in the celebration and show their support for gay couples across America.

This show of support was met quickly with a cancellation request from one of their clients who was not quite as eager to celebrate. The client demanded their retainer be returned. Brentwood Photography took the opportunity to answer the client and did the most honorable thing with the clients retainer.

I am standing and slowly clapping Brentwood Photography. Kudos. Go check them out at http://www.brentwoodphotography.com/, and show some love on their FB page Brentwood Photography.

Indeed. We only have to look at Lincoln's speech around the Dred Scott decision (also a decision by the Supreme Court). I do not believe that States have to abide by the decision. Laws can only be made or altered by Congress.

Brilliant...and I'm not at all surprised that his clients didn't examine their contract regarding his retainer (or did examine it and still tried to breach it). It's so unfortunate that some people wouldn't even want to associate with a wedding vendor who supports marriage equality. I realize that many people still find homosexuality objectionable based on their religious beliefs, but what benefit is there to not wanting to work with a photographer simply because of his support for a cause that is (in my view, at least) completely positive and therefore beautiful?

He lied. He said "since you don’t like and support gay marriage, no one else should be able to have it." The couple never said or implied that. He put false words in their mouth in order to shame them for his own benefit. I can't think of anything lower or more contemptible. What an asshole.

well I think this was very well put. as clearly Brentwood's client is homophobic to say the least. more so as they say. my finance and i support traditional marriage between man and woman. and don't want our money going to places that support otherwise. secondly I would like to inquire about how we can get our retainer back from you thank you.

personally I think this was very well put. by. Brentwood Photography. good on you for pointing out the terms and conditions. retainers are none refundable. as stated in any terms and conditions. and that is usually stated in the terms and conditions of any company. (large or small)

however I do like their response. and i personally think that. they could not have put it better.

a) im not going to keep it.

b) im going to donate it to glad. that supports gay rights.

c) i could not have done this without your money/retainer.

As a gay man I think the response is superb. Given the response in comments, I'm delighted to find such support from fair minded and reasonable people. Thank you all very much.
