Photographer Spends Hours Preparing Secret Engagement Photoshoot, Ends Up Shooting the Wrong Couple

An unnamed man living in Wisconsin hired a photographer to catch his sunrise mountaintop proposal, but all did not go to plan.

Jacob Peters, an Arkansas-based photographer, woke at 2.30 a.m. the day of the shoot, in order to beat the couple to the spot they would later be engaged. He hiked up Hawk’s Bill Crag, a scenic cliff overlooking the Ozark National Forest.

Peters set up his equipment and prepared for the arrival of the pair. Sure enough, shortly after 6 a.m. as planned, a couple arrived. Thankfully the woman said yes, as Peters snapped away in the distance. All seemed to have gone to plan — that was, until Peters texted his client to congratulate him. It wasn’t until the response came back, and his client apologized for being over an hour late, that Peters realized he had photographed an entirely different couple.

“Basically I spent six and a half hours, $40 in gas and food, 450 photos, and took the wrong couple’s photos,” Peters wrote on Facebook. After a Facebook campaign, Peters was able to track down the mystery couple in his photos. It’s said he didn’t charge either couple for the mix-up, and sent the “wrong” couple the right photos of their milestone moment.

You can see more of Peters' work at his Facebook page. He had initially set up a GoFundMe page in order to travel back to Wisconsin and rectify the situation by taking more photos for the couple, but ultimately canceled it.

Haha what a wild story. That's certainly the clients fault for not texting that he was an hour late but imagine if he wasn't late. What if the paying couple arrived only to see another couple doing the exact same thing in the exact same spot. As the guy, you'd have to bail and come up with another engagement idea right?

Haha man that would suck!

So wait, the photographer was able to capture both couples or he missed his client couple who was running late?

The latter. And not only the latter, but another couple conveniently turned up the same time his clients were due. So they got free engagement picz. What a bargain

If someone was waiting up a mountain for me, I'd definitely drop them a text

I don't know how things works in Wisconsin, but where I live there is no signal once you're go up the mountains. That's only 15-20 miles from the city.

:-)

that's funny. the original client should have at least told him he was running late. that's just common courtesy right ? must be a popular spot to get engaged though. and he set up a gofundme page to go to a paid gig ? what's up with that ? why would anyone give him money to go make money ?

I think the article also mentioned that there was no cell service up there so no matter if the client had tried to text or call the photographer, the lack of cell service prevented that.
