Are You Taking Enough Risks in Your Photography?

Learning photography is a challenging thing, requiring you to bring together various technical skills and creative vision simultaneously to make successful images. As such, when you dial it all in, it can be easy to stay in that routine and never evolve your work. That might be the time to ask yourself if you are taking risks in your work, as this great video discusses.

Coming to you from Mike Smith, this excellent video discusses the importance of being willing to make mistakes in your photography. It can be tempting to stay in your comfort zone, particularly when you worked so hard to get there in the first place. No doubt, you can likely make plenty of interesting images there, and some people even build entire careers off of that. But the truth is that your best creativity rarely comes from a place of comfort, and if you are interested in expanding not only your abilities but producing your best work, you have to be willing to push outside that zone and make mistakes. This might even mean you sometimes come home with images that you end up doing nothing with, but in the long run, you'll likely be thankful for your willingness to experiment. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Smith.
