Landscape Photography With the New 102 Megapixel Fujifilm GFX 100S

Medium format has been quietly becoming more powerful and more affordable and many photographers have started dipping their toes. In this video, one landscape photographer takes the 102 megapixel Fujifilm behemoth for a spin.

The Fujifilm GFX 100 was a large and important step for medium format cameras. It offered resolution and features typically exclusive to cameras that required you to spend a house deposit just to buy the body alone. Nevertheless, while it was significantly cheaper than a number of its counterparts, it still was far from cheap. At $10,000, few photographers could justify it and even fewer could buy it for fun. I have spoken several times about how I tried to make the numbers work for my business, but could only justify it as a luxury with some business application.

Then, recently, the Fujifilm GFX 100S launched and it surprised many of us. While it retained the incredible sensor, IBIS, and many other desirable features, it made two important changes; changes that almost anyone who had used its predecessor wanted. The first was reducing the size and weight significantly. The second was lowering the price by $4,000. At $5,999, the GFX 100S now entered the arena with flagship full frame bodies and become a highly attractive proposition for anyone interested in medium format.

In this video, landscape photographer Mark Denney, takes us on a shoot in the mountains with a GFX 100S he has rented while he makes the decision whether he would like to buy one or not.

Nicely done, but better him than me to have to deal with those large file sizes.

Good video. Nice images!

Very pleasant video. Doesn’t really show the capabilities of the camera. An Olympus would have done fine. Very good style of presenting. Must be a pain making these videos. Setting up a video , walk past and go back and get it. He carries it off well.
