VSCO Pack 6 Announced, Now Available

VSCO Pack 6 Announced, Now Available

The guys at VSCO - Visual Supply Company - are at it again. Today they released Pack 6 of their wildly succesful Lightroom/ACR/Photoshop-based film emulation presets. They've dubed the set the alternative process collection, which includes films that have been pushed, pulled, and cross-processed stocks.Pack 6 includes the following presets*

Fuji 400H +1, Kodak E100VS XP, Ilford HP5 -1, +1, +2, +3, Kodak Portra 160 +1, Kodak Portra 400 +1, +2, +3, Kodak Portra 800 +1, Agfa Precisa XP, Fuji Provia 400X XP, Fuji Provia 400X +1, Fuji Sensia XP, Kodak Tri-X -1, +1, +2, +3.

* +1 meaning pushed a stop, -1 meaning pulled a stop, etc.

As a film shooter myself, I love the look of pushed film, especially Portra 160. While example images from the pack are still few-and-far-between (there are a handful at the bottom of this page) I'd imagine we'll be seeing a lot of this collection.

Pack 6 is available now at an introductory price of $89.25 (normally $119).

If you're a VSCO user, does this pack excite you? Let us know in the comments below!

Hey, what about us poor people that use GIMP?

Stop being poor.

Very good free alternative:

I have come across G'MIC which is a plug-in for GIMP that has dozens of film emulation presets included that I begun to use. Thanks for the suggested alternatives. I will check them out. Thanks again.

While I have thoroughly appreciated most of their others sets, these seem like quite the stretch. There's a time to simply STOP with an idea and call it complete.

Having said that, here's a look at a previous shoot mostly incorporating their early set VSCO 2 (with Kodak Superia)

Update Nov 1: To be fair to VSCO, I have admired all their packs thus far and use them judiciously.

Decided to explore. Just watched the entire walkthrough video replete with insightful explanations of what's going on behind the scenes with all the color, contrast grain and such. Pushing, pulling and crossing.

Intriguing.

Also interesting to observe how on other photo websites that posted the 06 release, most of the commentators derided VSCO's pre-sets outright. Such differing audiences! I still admire VSCO but was simply wondering how far they should legitimately push new products and whether the pre-set distinctions were sufficiently distinct.

If you feel that way, maybe you should just use their very first pack and stop with that version. :) I myself appreciate anything i can add to my arsenal, including new film stocks and emulations. (Btw, their idea is to emulate faithful reproductions of film used through history, which is incredibly admirable- and nobody does it better than them)

That was my point
